Ferrari officially requests a review of Vettel's Canada penalty

Ferrari has officially requested its 'right to review' Sebastian Vettel's penalty from the Canadian Grand Prix.
Vettel was handed a five-second time penalty after he was deemed to have rejoined the circuit unsafely, causing Lewis Hamilton to brake while they battled for the lead of the race.
The penalty stripped Vettel and Ferrari of their first win of the season, while Mercedes picked up its seventh victory of the year, and its ninth in a row.
The regulations surrounding a time penalty meant that Ferrari could not directly appeal it, however, it was expected that it would go the alternate route of requesting a review.

Ferrari had until Sunday to make sure the review was lodged to the FIA, while it confirmed on Tuesday that it had written to the governing body.
In order for the request to be undertaking and a review to take place, Ferrari must present new and pivotal evidence to the stewards.
The situation is likely to be reviewed at this weekend's French Grand Prix, and if the stewards believe that the new evidence it is presented with is valid, it will listen to Ferrari's case.
Pundits and drivers were split over the decision to give Vettel a penalty for the incident, as the German insisted that he had no control of his car.
Ferrari has not won a Grand Prix since USA last year, while Vettel's drought stretches back longer, as he hasn't taken the chequered flag since the Belgian Grand Prix of 2018.

I am glad Ferrari did this. It will either reveal more data (e.g. telemetry) to show that Seb was either out of control, or carefully calculating how to keep Lewis behind.
It will be good for Formula 1 to have the additional transparency. However, it will not change anything for the fanboys of each driver, who live in a world where Lewis can do no right, and Ferrari no wrong or viceversa.

I agree. It's a surprisingly gutsy move from Ferrari, and it's a win-win regardless.

Bad call by the marshalls. There is an element of spectacle and sport. MB is dominating this call is so close to make would it have hurt to give it Ferraris way. Racing is not a video game. There are split second decisions. Lewis instantly made the call out for unsafe return to the track. When i raced and I saw the car i was closing on wobble i tried to always go to the safe side it looks like Lewis made a move to squeeze by on the outside and it didn't work. I am not saying what he did was wrong but it didn't work so he cried foul. The car in control has room for choices the car that lost control can't make the same choices as you are just trying to keep it moving ahead till the car stops sliding. I hope the penalty is reversed.

I've given credit to Hamilton many times in the past when due, but in this case I totally agree with @f1ski, and you can see from my previous posts that I'm no 'fanboy' of Vettel, only of f1, sportsmanship and of encouraging hard racing!
