Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel believes the possibility of F1 introducing reverse grid sprint races would show the sport was unable to come up with regulations that would make racing better.
The discussion of introducing the reverse grid sprint race format into F1 was re-ignited after Pierre Gasly's shock win at the recent Italian Grand Prix, a race which saw McLaren's Carlos Sainz finish second and Racing Point's Lance Stroll third.
Speaking about the possibility of introducing the format into the sport as a means to replicate the drama seen in Monza, Vettel feels it would be a bad decision for F1.
"I think it's completely wrong," Vettel told Crash.net
"If you are pushing in that direction it's a testimony that you have failed to come up with regulations and tools that bring the field more together and make racing better on track.
"I mean, a reminder, we had new front wing regulations which cost everybody a fortune, but ultimately haven't changed much in terms of racing.
"The hopes are on 2022, I guess, for the regulation changes but I think we need to fix that and address the main points, rather than try to play the lottery.
"I think it's just against the element of sport and competition, so as a competitor, I think as much as I don't like other people to win, I have to accept if other people win, or do a better job.
"Therefore, I think it would be wrong in the name of the sport to try and mix things up that way."

put a lower spending cap on MB . Let other teams spend more develop more. if they want parity it is easy to achieve

So the wrong decision. Penalising a winning team - are you serious? No, the only fair way to do this is bring in rule changes that all have to adhere to - it should always be about the team that does the best job. Remove Ferrari’s entry fee, that would be a better statement of intent. Restrict spending - they’re doing it. Let’s see how it pans out before damning the FIA.

Doesn’t have to be a permanent thing, could just be used until the new regulations come in, possibly longer depending on how it works out

Vettel doesn't like it because he's lost the edge that would have let him thrive with that ruleset. In his Torro Rosso days, he'd have had your arm off for a reverse grid. Today he would be smashed because he doesn't belong there anymore.
Reverse grid races would be very entertaining and the call for them is a result of the failure, the utter, complete and sustained failure of the F1 powers that be to make a consistently interesting offer on their current rules.
I don't give a monkeys if its irregular or even if it "violates the sanctity of the sport" (oh vicar, please), it would be fun, it would be interesting. Do it. Try it.

thing is, Vet would likely benefit from rev grid even now. quite literally all but merc and rb would.

Sebastian Vettel shows his integrity. Even though he may get an advantage, he knows that it would be wrong. RB, for example, would have been falsely elevated to start first at Austria 2.
For Max and RBR to usurp the title there is only one team (Mercedes and Lewis) that they can’t pass on track. If Mercedes is forced to start behind them, then there is nothing standing in their way.
Many, many will dream of this, but too bad. RBR will have to build a faster car. There will be no cheat assist to kick the front runners in the balls and then crown a fake champion.

Seb is absolutely right but my worry now is the ‘big spending’ teams - Merc at the top - will already be pouring big money into the 2022 new designs before the spending cap, likely a lot, lot more than the middle rank teams whilst continuing to tweak the current car in parallel. No change in status quo under new regs IMO.

Looks like we’ll have to start our own threads! So , as this is the ‘last posted’ GP Today story lets chat carry on.
What do people think of the Hammy penalties for practice starts? For me, where he plonked his car at the end of the pit lane was short of suicidal and manically stupid, just waiting for someone exiting pits checking mirrors, read outs, settings, whatever to have smacked him right up the a**e and a big accident. Super licence points should stand. €25,000 for the team is loose change (even if it’s a cashless transaction).
Any other topics?
PS (for UK readers) Sainz “should have gone to Spec Savers”).

Maybe we start our own threads - onwards from here whilst site is still live? Tried this a couple of days ago but it didn’t get published (on this thread). Try again.
Was Hammy ‘bang today rights’ and where he parked his car was stupid for such an experience drivers and risked a big smack up and injury to someone?

nah, FE is FE, F1 is F1. F1 will sooner or later adapt EV tech, but when they do they'll likely be leages above FE.

Calle.itw did call Honda win and success to the podium iirc. They got it and I saw grown-ass men cry. Perhaps because it has been a long and lonely time since the last Honda engine win.

I did, I always trusted them to git gud sooner or later. And I too did shed a tear or two when they won.
As for the reason for their departure: I can respect them wanting to focus on the (allegedly) greener, less constly options what is more consumer-friendly. Still think they should stay, F1 won't be the same for me without the glorious nippon empire, but it is what it is. Hope they'll return soon. If they join FE instead, I might have to start watching that "thing"... *shudders*

The pits. As if we didn't need reminding how wrong F1 had got the costs, agree with the comment below, cant see a new engine manufacturer join with the uncertainty - time for RBR to BUY the brains in and make their own engine I think, burned their bridges with Renault surely and Mercedes already turned them down twice I understand - what options do they have left realistically?

Well, unless RB manage to make a deal with Ferrari or Merc, Renault Must give them PUs, since they have the fewest customers. Those are the current rules, and Renault cannot refuse.

Interlagos is no more, a new Rio circuit in place of a forest. Hammy doesn’t like it, I don’t really but wasn’t it Inter’ that needed armed escort to go to/from the circuit? Plus, bit rich when you consider the thousands of gallons of aviation fuel to get the F1 circus to Brazil and back. Double standards?

it is, but it'll be the same regardless of track in Brazil. It just aint very safe there. As for Hammy: the grid's one true humanist already proved that he is willing to support slave built venues with his presence, so I doubt he'd do such a thing.

new rumors imply RB could be set to buy Honda's PU rights and partner with Mugen to continue the project. Dunno how likely that is, but it'd be something, shame to just toss out a fine PU.

I think we will all be surprised if the site comes back, so thanks to fellow contributors, there’s been some interesting threads, view points, technical input, etc. Crap day for the teams today but will hopefully mix things up a bit without the usual preparations and bring an interesting quali / race day. My closing comment on today’s press coverage is these drivers should not moan about being bored when they earn such humongous money.

Dutch section seems ok.
That said the domain will expire in April of 2021. Usually business don't like to wait until the last minute to renew their domains. It maybe that they will renew it before the end of the year. Not sure what to make of it but the radio silence might mean something.
It costs money to maintain a website like this. When social mediums like YouTube can actually help generate some revenue, most mediums are now going video based. People don't want to read their news, they like to have some recite it all to them laced with cringe jokes and pathetic memes. The new normal.
