HWA continues to spread its motorsport footprint as it confirmed on Monday that it will partner Arden for the 2019 Formula 2 season. The relationship will involve an engineering and technical partnership, which Arden hopes will boost it up the F2 grid.
HWA currently runs a Formula E programme, with parent company Mercedes set to take the reigns for the 2019/20 season. It also holds a spot on the DTM grid, and will run a team in the new FIA Formula 3 championship this year.
“We are very pleased about this co-operation with Arden International, which is an important step for us as a team,” said HWA team principal Ulrich Fritz. “It does not just represent a sporting challenge, but also allows us to utilise synergies and demonstrate our expertise in all areas of motorsport.
“The FIA Formula 2 Championship is an extremely exciting and competitive platform. As newcomers to this championship, our primary aim is to learn as much as possible, apply our engineering know-how and contribute to the success of Arden.
"An involvement in Formula 2 is an ideal addition to our wide spectrum of motorsport commitments, which now ranges from Formula 3 to Formula E, and from GT racing to the DTM.”
Arden has competed in every GP2/Formula 2 season since its commencement in 2005. Last year, it ended the championship in ninth place with 58 points, racing with Max Gunther and Nerei Fukuzumi in partnership with BWT.
Arden team principal Garry Horner added: "We are delighted to announce our new engineering and technical partnership with HWA RACELAB. HWA bring a wealth of engineering expertise and knowledge to the programme and we look forward to working with them in the FIA F2 Championship."
