Aitken wins feature race amid Baku chaos

Jack Aitken has won his second career Formula 2 race, beating Nyck de Vries to the chequered flag.

The feature race, the first of the weekend in F2, was incident filled as just 13 drivers finished the race. De Vries held the lead early on in the race, jumping pole sitter Nobuharu Matsushita off the start line.

At Turn 1, both Tridents came together, which put Guiliano Alesi out. The first safety car of the race was called, which bunched the field up as Alesi's car was recovered.

De Vries lost the lead of the race after he made his pit stop. A slow stop allowed Aitken to close up as they exited the pit lane, with Matsushita taking to the pits with a mechanical issue.

A virtual safety car was called when Mick Schumacher, who was running in a net P4 after the pit stops, spun at Turn 16, stalling his car.

De Vries found himself coming under pressure from Nicholas Latifi behind, but the Dutchman managed to stay ahead of the Carlin driver.

The penultimate safety car was called on lap 17 when Guanyu Zhou crashed into the wall, as he turned out to avoid hitting the rear of Juan Manuel Correa. 

Tatiana Calderon, who was on an alternative strategy, dropped out right when the safety car was called, ruining her chance of fitting the super soft tyres and running to the end.

As the field prepared for the safety car restart, there was an incident involving four drivers as Luca Ghiotto, Dorian Boccolacci, Sergio Sette Camara and Louis Deletraz were all involved before leader Aitken decided to restart the race.

In the final moments of the race, Jordan King made his way past Latifi around the outside at Turn 3 to take his first podium in Formula 2.
