Tadasuke Makio is being touted for a European Formula Three drive at Prema Powerteam next year, according to Autosport.
The Honda junior recently tested with the Italian team for two days at Spa Francorchamps, running alongside Mick Schumacher.
Makino finished last year's Japanese F4 Championship as runner-up. He also won both the West and East JAF F4 championships.
Prema boss Rene Rosin was positive of Makino's first F3 outing.
"First impressions were really positive," he said. "It was difficult conditions but he didn't make any mistakes - we will see more on Tuesday."
Makino also recently competed in the Japanese Super GT championship, racing in place of McLaren test driver Oliver Turvey.

Sounds quite impressive, he should be more than ready for F3.
