Renault F1 junior driver Christian Lundgaard will compete in the inaugural FIA Formula 3 championship this year after penning a deal with ART.
The 17-year-old Dane won the SMP Formula 4 Championship and the Spanish Formula 4 Championship in 2017 before moving on the Formula Renault Eurocup last year.
Lungaard missed out on the title and finished in P2 behind fellow Renault junior max Fewtrell. He also made his GP3 debut at the Circuit Paul Ricard, finishing P12 and P13 in the feature and sprint races respectively.
"I’m really pleased to stay with the Renault Sport Academy for a third successive season,” said Lundgaard. “It shows Renault have a lot of faith in me and I’ve been grateful for every opportunity they’ve given me so far.
“The structure of Renault’s support has been beneficial and I hope to repay their faith by scoring wins and podiums on track this season. Formula 3 will be a challenge, but it’s one I look forward to taking on, especially with the opportunity to show my ability at eight Formula 1 weekends. I can’t wait to begin.”
Lundgaard is the second driver that ART has announced, after it confirmed Briton David Beckmann would line-up for it this year. It is yet to declare who will occupy the third spot at the team.
