With the fourth season of Formula E season fast approaching, NIO FE team has announced that Ma Qing Hua has joined as its official reserve driver. The Chinese racer competed in the first three rounds of the 2016-17 season with Teechetah.
Before that, he raced for Team Aguri in the 2015-16 season, claiming a best finish of eleventh at the first London ePrix. Now, Ma joins the re-branded NIO team and will be working alongside full-time drivers Oliver Turvey and Luca Filippi.
"I am extremely proud to be appointed as the Reserve Driver for the NIO Formula E Team for the upcoming season," Ma said. "I see NIO as an exciting new brand and rising star in the industry, having accomplished so much already in a few short years from tremendous R&D work to participation in Formula E racing."
NIO's team principal Gerry Hughes added: "It is with great pleasure that we welcome Ma Qing Hua into the NIO Formula E Team family in the role of Reserve Driver. NIO is first and foremost a Chinese EV brand, so it extremely fitting to have Ma join the NIO Formula E Team and it will be great to see him back in the Paddock in Hong Kong next week."
