Pierre Gasly has been crowned the 2016 GP2 champion, defeating rookie Antonio Giovinazzi who went into this weekend with the points lead.

Alex Lynn won the final race of the season in what will be his final race in the series. He led every lap of the race after cleanly getting away from pole position.

Johnny Cecotto finished second, ahead of third placed Sergey Sirotkin. Nobuharu Matsushita claimed fourth position, ahead of Frenchman Norman Nato in fifth.

Giovinazzi needed to finish at least third in the race but failed to do so, only managing sixth. He made a poor getaway off the line, that lost him two positions. He was ahead of seventh placed Artem Markelov.

Mitch Evans came across the line in eighth. Newly-crowned champion Gasly finished in ninth, and becomes the second Frenchman to win the series after Romain Grosjean.

Jordan King completed the top ten, crossing the line five seconds behind Gasly.
