Nyck De Vries claimed his maiden GP3 pole position at the Hungaroring and has stated he is satisfied and relieved at the result.

The McLaren junior's lap was four tenths of a second clear of the rest of the field. He also out qualified his two championship battling team-mates Charles Leclerc and Alex Albon.

"It’s always satisfying to be ahead with a comfortable margin, in this case as it’s my first pole and after what happened in Silverstone I feel kind of relieved and satisfied to come back and show what we can do," he said.

Matthew Parry starts second, a personal best for him this season and is hoping to capitalise on his front row start.

"Hopefully I can make a good start. For sure we can see how the race goes from there," he said. "The last three qualifying sessions for us haven’t been great so we can take some positives from this today and I’m really pleased to be starting P2."

Trident driver Antonio Fuoco placed third and is also hoping to make the best of his grid position, but admits he knows he will have to defend as much as he attacks.

"I was not really lucky with the red flag. I also had some traffic in front of me," he said."But the feeling with my car was really good today and yesterday so we have to work towards the race now."

"I will try to do a good start and try my best to pass Nyck and Matt," he added. "I will need to manage the situation as Charles and Alex are behind me which is good for the title battle. We have to try to do a really god job today."
