Former Formula One driver Nelson Piquet Jr. has said he wants to take part in the Indianapolis 500.

The Brazilian, who has raced in ARCA, NASCAR, Global Rallycross, the World Endurance Championship, Blancpain Sprint Series, Stock Car Brasil, and Indy Lights, is keen to add the IndyCar showpiece to his lengthy CV.

Piquet previously discussed the possibility of racing in the event when racing for SH racing in Red Bull Global Rallycross. SH Racing co-owner James 'Sulli' Sullivan is a co-owner of the KVSH IndyCar team.

"I said to Sulli I'd be interested in doing the Indy 500 if we could put something together but they couldn't," Piquet told Autosport. "I told them I was open if they can find something."

"I would prefer to do it in a car which is good, and maybe do a race before to get a handle on the car on an oval."

Piquet will be back for SH racing in Red Bull Global Rallycross next weekend in Washington DC, returning to the site of his only rallycross win almost a year ago. He will take the place of former IndyCar race winner Jeff Ward.
