Esteban Gutierrez would be interested in competing in the Indy 500, one of the most prestigious races in motorsport. The 2017 event was held last weekend and was won byfFormer F1 driver Takuma Sato, who races for Andretti Autosport.

A lot of particular interest was on Fernando Alonso, who skipped the Monaco Grand Prix to try his hand at the race, but ultimately ended in retirement. Gutierrez said that seeing how Alonso did could inspire him to one day take part in it.

"I would love to try the Indy 500; I watched the race and it's a real exciting race," Gutiérrez is quoted by the official IndyCar website. "It's pure driving, pure racing. It requires so many factors. I think what Fernando experienced, I know Fernando very well, so I could see the smile on his face all the time, so I could realise that it is something I have to try."

Gutierrez is currently in Detroit, making his debut in IndyCar for Dale Coyne Racing. As of now, he is only on a one-weekend deal but is eyeing a long-term one. This weekend he admits he is just learning the characteristics of the series.

"My approach this weekend is to learn," he said. "So, I'll take it step by step very progressively, no mistakes, just enjoying the experience and the speed will come naturally."
