There are no gentlemen in F1 anymore - Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton has hit out at the lack of "gentlemen" on a grid increasingly full of "kids". "There are too many kids in the sport now," the reigning world champion told Germany's Sport Bild.

He is obviously referring to the trend for younger and younger race drivers, like 17-year-old Max Verstappen, as he contrasted the F1 today with the Sir Stirling Moss era. "At that time, the drivers were real gentlemen," Hamilton said. "Loyalty and friendship still played an important role. Today I think there are no gentlemen in formula one. Everyone thinks only of himself."

But that is not all the 30-year-old Briton rues. "I miss the girls in the paddock. There are so many men in there now that it's not even funny," said Hamilton. (GMM)

  • I have to agree, but I cant help but feel that it is a bit ironic that he says it, as I do not consider him a gentleman. But he has clearly not seen e.g Button if he says there are no gentlemen left in F1.

For most of his comments, LH could be the "example given," or, I'd have to question whether his concerns really matters; at all. So what if MaxV is 17? I suspect that if he was in the other MB, LH would be second in the points right now. When I hear LH on the radio, and read about his contracts, I don't hear "loyalty and friendship." And actually, the fact that he misses the girls in the paddock is pretty funny. (I have yet to tune into any race for that, EVER! But if Nicole were to show up at my door around race time, I'd probably TIVO the race. ;-)
