Jost Capito will start work at McLaren in August

It is understood Jost Capito will start work at McLaren at the end of August. Capito was actually signed up by the Woking team to be its new chief executive in January, but he said he would only leave his role as VW's racing chief once a successor is appointed.

German Capito, 57, is in Monaco this weekend, triggering speculation he might now be ready to start work. But team boss Eric Boullier said: "I don't know when exactly he will officially take up his duties. But in my view everything is simple. Ron Dennis has the highest position in the McLaren Technology Group. I am race director at all of the races."

"But McLaren Racing has more than 600 employees, and with 20-21 races each year then I'm away from them for about four months of the year. As a race team we have 80 people but more than 500 are at the factory and need to be managed," Boullier added. "Therefore responsibilities are divided between me and Jost Capito, who will also be responsible for the development strategy of McLaren Racing," he said. (GMM)

A good catch, hopefully he'll be a smoother talker than e.g Dennis.

  Ron is the main man, no one is going to do things any other way. Jost Capito wont have much a direct influence on the F1 race team, that's what Eric is for.

  I dont mind Dennis being in McLaren, but I think he should be less tonegiving to the team, let Boullier take care of that kinda talking.

  Ron used to be very good at what he did back in the days of Mclaren domination, he had a huge hand in carrying this team forward and for that we fans are eternally grateful however these days he just doesn't have all the right people with him. Our aero is weak but filled with egos the size of a 5 mile asteroid. The Japanese are like always chillin' with "we will continue to improve" maybe by the year 2036 we will win something. No, really, the entire engineering dept is not one of strength these days. You will find that strength at RBR, a little bit at Merc, heck I think even Ferrari is doing a better job than Mclaren have.
  
  Mclaren was the leader for sometime now with the next year is our year, ask DC. Lately Ferrari have taken over this mantle but we are quickly coming there to take that back if Ron and Eric's latest comments are anything to go by.

  I agree on most of what you say there. Dennis was truly amazing once, but now... there's been too much talk from his side. I wouldnt mind a down season for McLaren, but his talking definitely worsened the situation. I'll leave judgement on the engine side after the next update. They'll spend all their tokens, so if they've done it right we'll see a decent bump, if not, I'll agree on the opinion on Honda. One this was for sure: they underestimated the challenge of F1, and like Hasegawa said they've been away from F1 for too long. Im surprised by how McLaren still lack downforce, hopefully they'll amend that.
  
  I'll stick to being carefully optimistic. McLaren should be stronger next year, with a bigger turbo and a chassis they've designed the concept for, but Im not sure they'll be able to challenge for the championship. We'll see.
