Max Verstappen finished the Canadian Grand Prix in fourth position, missing out on the podium by virtue of his two stop strategy while third place finisher Valtteri Bottas stopped only once.

After a superb defensive battle with Nico Rosberg, in the penultimate lap the German spun while attempting to overtake Verstappen, securing fourth place for the Red Bull Racing driver. An achievement made all the more remarkable as Rosberg tried to pass the Dutchman for more than five laps but could not get by, despite having DRS advantage.

Afterwards Max said: "This was not a bad race. Yet it is unfortunate that we have no podium, but we had too much degradation. We had to make the best it and they succeeded."

"At the first corner I braked a little earlier, and then I saw it happen to me with Hamilton and Rosberg. I could connect and catch up with him outside after I was third."

"The first pit stop was planned for lap 20. We would continue until the end of the softs but I had too much wear so I had to come in. We had no choice to go on ultra soft."

When asked about the battle with Rosberg, Verstappen started to smile: "That fight was good I had to use a lot of battery Rosberg to keep behind me, he was really much faster when braking I was already at the limit and I saw him shoot and I thought wow! When I was sure of fourth place. I'm going with a laugh towards Baku."
