2017 will see Formula One move away from the much-criticised high- degradation tyres used in recent years.
In an effort to spice up 'the show', Pirelli has produced tyres degrade quickly in order to force teams to make varied strategy calls.
But 2017's wider tyres will see F1 move away from this philosophy.
"We will have much less degradation in 2017 and tyres will – if we achieve what we are trying to achieve – have a wider operating window,” said Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery. "Yes, that in itself will take away some level of strategy – or at least variations between teams. Having said that, we will still try to achieve some level of degradation."
However, Hambery believes that the somewhat artificial loss of strategy will be made up by how hard the tyres will have to work, with lap times set to be slashed by several seconds.
"What we definitely will see is faster cars," he said. "We expect a three to four second improvement in performance, which is clearly quite substantial."
"So the tyres will be working very hard and the compounds will be working hard – and that will cause degradation, so we will still have a good level of strategy."

Best decision they've made in quite a while.
