Felipe Massa has said that the late Jules Bianchi had "a difficult time" with Ferrari at the time of the accident which would ultimately lead to his death.
The Frenchman, who was part of the Ferrari Driver Academy, was seen as a potential future driver for the Italian team, something Massa strongly agrees with.
"He was a driver who should have had the chance to race for Ferrari," he said. "At the time, there was talk that he could go there and that they were talking."
However, those talks may have hit a stumbling block according to Massa.
"He was having a difficult time in his talks with Ferrari," the Brazilian revealed to UOL Grande Premio.
Ferrari had just signed Sebastian Vettel to race for the team in 2015 and Kimi Raikkonen was in the middle of a two year deal that had an option of a third season, but Massa, who shared the same manager as Bianchi, is in no doubt that Bianchi had the potential to eventually succeed in Formula One.
"But his talent was clear. I always thought he was a driver who could be very successful in F1," added Massa, who was close to Bianchi as they shared a manager in Nicolas Todt.
