Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has urged Renault to sign Esteban Ocon for next season.

The 19-year-old is a Mercedes development driver and also drives for the German marque in DTM but has spent the season on loan to Renault where he has served as a test driver.

Wolff has been singing the praises of the Frenchman, and thinks Renault should sign him for 2017.

"Esteban has an impeccable personality - he really is a nice and intelligent young man. And his performance in the car is extraordinary," he told the French broadcaster Canal Plus. "He did two sensational test days with us at Silverstone and we saw that he did the same time as (Kevin) Magnussen in Friday free practice, so he is someone who has a big future."

"I hope that my colleagues realise all of this, otherwise it will be us (Mercedes) who will be taking him back!" the Austrian joked.

Both Renault's drivers Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer have yet to be confirmed for next season with Sergio Perez, Felipe Massa, and Ocon all linked with the team.

Ocon is also in the frame to make his Formula One début with Manor this season in place of the cash-strapped Rio Haryanto.
