F1 to "sell" access to radio communications

Bernie Ecclestone is reportedly planning to capitalise on the lifting of Formula One's radio restrictions by selling access to the radio communications.

The change was made "at the request of the teams and commercial rights holder", after a number of controversial penalties had been given for communications infringements.

However, unlike before the ban, teams now have no option to keep some messages private in an attempt to provide "improved content for fans and spectators".

Germany's Auto Motor und Sport is now reporting that F1 boss Ecclestone plans to "sell" full access to all the communications between cars and the pit wall to the public.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff welcomed the moves to make all of the communications available, saying: "We believe that it is a necessary part of entertaining the fans."

It would not be the first time a series has made all radio communications available to fans. A similar service is available for NASCAR viewers.
