Esteban Ocon will make his Formula One début later this month in Belgium. according to reports in France.
Auto Hebdo, claims the Mercedes junior will replace Rio Haryanto at Manor, with the Indonesian needing €7 million to see out the season.
"We understand Manor's concern but we hope Rio will not be replaced by another driver just because of funding issues," Indonesian sports ministry spokesman Gatot Dewa Broto said. "We don't really see that [securing the funding] happening. We can't promise anything."
Auto Hebdo also said that Ocon's Manor deal would see the 19-year-old leave DTM. Ocon has been competing in the touring car series this year after winning back-to-back Formula Three and GP3 titles but Mercedes has reportedly already signed his replacement.
He has also spent the season on loan at Renault where he has served as their reserve driver.
Manor have yet to comment on the situation.
