Sebastian Vettel has been criticised by the Italian press following his retirement from the Malaysia Grand Prix.

The German crashed out of the race on the opening lap after making contact with Nico Rosberg, and now the harshly-critical press in Ferrari's homeland has turned to him in their latest talk of what they perceive to be a 'crisis' at Maranello.

"It is clear now that Ferrari urgently needs a successful driver," Corriere della Sera, a Milan daily, said afterwards.

"The more Red Bull improves, the more unrecognisable Sebastian becomes," it added.

La Repubblica, said Vettel "s not laughing now", adding :"Has Maranello sunk the highest paid driver in Ferrari history, or has Vettel lost his talent and speed?"

Corriere dello Sport, meanwhile, criticised Vettel for not taking responsibility for his mistakes this season.

"It is sad to see that he does not accept responsibility for his mistakes," it wrote.

La Gazzetta dello Sport, however, was at least laying some of the blame at the feet of Ferrari, saying that while "Seb is in crisis, it is also Ferrari's fault".

  • Leave it to the gutter Italian press to stir up a drama, none of those dimwits can drive if their life depended on it, just the last Singapore race Vettel was praised for his recovery drive from the back of the field.

Ferrari will never succeed unless they kick the Italian press in the gonads and totally ignore them. Ferrari have allowed this monster influence to sit on a pedestal.
