Max Verstappen was voted driver of the day for the United States Grand Prix, despite failing to finish the race.
The Red Bull Racing driver was also involved in a pit stop mix up with his team, coming in for a stop, despite not being told to, or confirming it.
The win has called the voting procedure for the award into question, with fans able to vote for their winner online.
It has been revealed to F1Today that 25% of all Driver of the Day voters for each race have come from the Netherlands, with Verstappen also one of the most popular drivers worldwide at the moment.
You can not name a DNF as Driver Of The Day, that's crazy.
Must be some Dutch hackers...
Too many fanbois just sitting there along with their buddies to vote. Some sad existence that is LMAO
Definitely draws into question the purpose or validity of whole driver of the day thing when a bunch Dutch kids can overwhelm the process with votes. Not sure what race they were watching but Verstappen did a pretty poor job by most accounts, and as mentioned, how can someone be the driver of the day when they don't even finish the race. That should be the bare minimum qualification for the award. So who was the real driver of the day? In my estimation probably has to be Hamilton. Didn't set a foot wrong and commanded the race start to finish. Probably would have voted for Danny Ric if he could have caught Rosberg though.
