Pascal Wehrlein is expected to race for Sauber next year having hinted at as much in the paddock in Abu Dhabi.
Wehrlein was expected to move to Force India until the Silverstone-based team announced that they had opted for Esteban Ocon instead.
Now with only seats at Manor and Sauber available, Wehrlein appears to have his future secured.
"There's something new, but nothing new with a signature," he said.
As for Wehrlein's Manor seat, that is expected to go to Haas driver Esteban Gutierrez.
"What I can tell you is I've been working day and night for something definitive," he is quoted by the Spanish daily Marca in Abu Dhabi.
"We are focusing a lot of energy on it but so far there is nothing to announce. But there are good prospects and possibilities and I hope to share my plans soon," Gutierrez added.
