Tavo Hellmund has been linked with the buyout of Manor Racing.
Earlier this week, team owner Stephen Fitzpatrick revealed that Manor has "agreed terms with an investor" and Mexican-American entrepreneur Hellmund, a key figure in the revivals of the Mexican and US Grands Prix
However, F1 supremo Ecclestonehas been quoted by numerous reports as saying he doubts Hellmund, whom he is close to, will buy the team.
When asked if Manor's participation in the 2017 season is in doubt, the 86-year-old said: "This is a question for the team owners, not for me.
"But if Fitzpatrick had not bought the team, it would no longer exist," Ecclestone added.
There are other rumours the new Manor investor might be linked connected to Jangonya, the Indonesian branch of global fast food giant KFC, a sponsor prominent in Formula Three and GP2.
The company entered GP2 this year with the Campos team, with boss Adrian Campos saying at the time: "It is a sponsor with formula one potential."
