Lewis Hamilton on the cover of Time

Lewis Hamilton has been featured on the cover of the iconic Time magazine.

The move is a real coop for Formula One which has traditionally struggled to make an impact in the United States - Time's primary market.

A number of cultural and political figures have featured on the cover of Time magazine over the years, including the likes of Albert Einstein, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Steve Jobs, Leonardo di Caprio, Ronald Reagan, Adele and more, but Hamilton is the first Formula One driver to do so.

"Hamilton is the sport’s biggest name, a three-time champ with a raft of famous friends who is swarmed by fans at races from Australia to Azerbaijan, from Monaco to Malaysia," writes Time's Sean Gregory, who also calls Hamilton "the greatest race-car driver of this generation."

Hamilton was Alonzo's equal as a rookie. Vettel was only great in the Red Bull. Verstappen may be the future. Hamilton is an all time great that is criticized for being himself and enjoying his life. Some see color I see greatness. You should enjoy him while he's in his prime.

Brits may or may not be biassed, but since Time is a US magazine and Sean Gregory is a US reporter, I don't see the relevance of your comment.

He doesn't plan to become, he is this generation's best. Part of being great is making proper choices. Alonzo leaving Ferrari for McLaren was insane. He may not win another race. If not for questionable Mercedes decisions Hamilton would be 4 time champion. He is a racer along with being a driver of unquestionable ability. Verstappen may be the future. Sainz, Ocon, or possibly Riccardo bode well for the future. Hamilton is an all time great.
