Bernie Ecclestone has ousted from his role as CEO of F1 after weeks of speculation about his future. The 86 year old will reportedly be replaced by Chase Carey from Liberty Media.
No official confirmation has come from Liberty Media, however Ecclestone revealed at his London home that he has been ousted.
"I do not run the company anymore. This role is now occupied by Chase."
"My days in office are now somewhat calmer. Maybe I'll come to a Grand Prix sometime. I still have a lot of friends in the Formula One. And I still have enough money to be able to afford a visit to a race.
"I now get a job the Americans describe as as Honorary Chairman. What that title means I will carry I don't exactly know.
Whether Ecclestone retains his role in the FIA World Council remains unclear. "I doubt it. I have to talk about it with Jean Todt about it."
Hold your horses people, this is a parasite we are talking about with a knack to survive despite what seems to be certain extermination.
Not sure if F1 is really better without Bernie. Time will tell, Displacing dictators doesn't mean creating stability .. does F1 really need to change? I always liked the awkedness (by F1 bosses) between Bernie and team bosses.
By not needing a change you mean letting historic races go into oblivion because some parasite was extorting them race promoters of all their tiny profits? If you want awkwardness there is plenty of if on YouTube, twitter, vine et cetera. Leave F1 out of it thank you very much.
For me following F1 is more than just the races. I just made the point about Bernie being in charge; And I liked the interaction between Bernie and the whole F1 circuit.
Bernie was responsible/credited for creating F1 into what it is now; Calling him names doesn't change that.
Good luck mcLaren fan. However, kinda interested what your views are on Dennis being ousted?
We can go back and forth on how Bernie has destroyed F1 since he got more and more influence into the dealings and financial aspects of F1, only thing he has done for himself is milk the sport well and dry. Safe to say you are in the overwhelming minority of those who wish to see Bernie stay.
Ron Dennis is old and has lost his purpose it's time he retired. The team needs fresh people with fresh ideas. Dennis had his time it was glorious but now its time to move on both for him and the team.
He sold at the right time, a time when all the promoters are losing too much money because of the new rules, not getting the crowds, and many promoters held on for years, but are unable to carry any further loses................A time when Governments are less likely to pour in funds, as always Bernie, buys it cheap, and sells it at the top of the market.......................
F1 revenues will decline in the coming years, until we get a new format and old engines come back, and that's the only reason Bernie sold.
