Renault are aiming for at least fifth or sixth in next years constructors championship, according to boss Cyril Abiteboul. Renault re-entered the sport as a constructor last year and finished ninth, with eight points.
However the goal for 2017 is much higher, and with a regulation change focusing on aerodynamics being introduced there is a possibility to see teams make leaps on the constructors table
"We have another year of transition for us, but we also have a clear goal. We want to exhibit our progression. We want to fight with Williams and Force India for fifth or sixth place in the constructors championship and finish above Toro Rosso, who runs the same engines."
"That's quite a decent challenge. In 2015, we got a full second deficit with the Mercedes engine. Last year we reduced it to half a second. For 2017 we expect to halve the difference back to 0.2 to 0.25 second."
