Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has said that the team never considered Fernando Alonso when it came to finding a replacement for Nico Rosberg. When world champion Nico Rosberg retired, many fans hoped to see Alonso reunited with Hamilton.
Speaking to BBC 5 Live, Wolff admitted that the 2007 season stuck in his mind when it came to choosing a driver. Hamilton and Alonso had an extremely tense and troubling partnership at McLaren during that year.
Speaking about the situation, Wolff said: "From the position of the fans, I understand, I would also like to see Fernando at Mercedes and that old rivalry from 2007 back to life."
"But from the perspective of the team it just did not go. There is a history. The year 2007 is also a painful chapter for Mercedes, as a partner of McLaren at that time, we were closely involved. Of course, they have become more mature and people change. Hamilton-Alonso would have been an exciting line-up, but just a little too exciting for us."

Nah, Hamilton looks to be the better driver. Find Alonso a bit whiny actually... thats my pennies worth.

LOL right, the guy who needed the entire team to side with him and race against Alonso and still couldn't beat him on points, let alone on tracks where Alonso slaughtered the turdboy, Monza 2007. The same pos that Button made look ordinary. If you are tying to say better out of the load of trash that's always present in any sport, sure going by stats. Nelson Piquet Snr also won 3 titles but no one really cares about that guy because of the same reasons. Just not that great. Press powered hot air won't last long. BS gets noticed and called out. Right now the turdboy has the armor of the racist card, call any of his weakness out and those people are branded as racists, convenient ;)

I really hold either of the two as a favourite, but Alonso is just a bit whiny, whereas Hamilton is Hamilton, and Hamilton is the Konami of F1 (for more info, ask Jim Sterling (Thank god for him) on the subject). I can handle a whiny but good driver, but a driver who constantly cross the rules and is forgiven every time while bragging the way Ham Ham does is a bit 'meh', IMO. But at the end of the day, methinks Vettel would win against either of them in a fair competition.

Wolff also knows that by not signing Alonso with Hamilton. He will not have to worry about the bathroom doors being ripped off their hinges, in the Mercedes back area. As happened at China in 2007, when Fernando was out qualified by Lewis, and became so enraged by Hamilton taking pole position.

China 2007 Alonso's tyres where over inflated by so much it can't be just the usual margins of error. Clear sabotage by those within in Mclaren who wanted to create a British champion sooner than it warranted on merit. Of course Alonso will be enraged, genuine skill is being marginalized through lowbrow tactics. It is an effective method because it cant be proven it was done on purpose. And yet despite all that turdboy and his side of goofs couldn't get more points than Alonso, let alone the title trololo. That is embarrassing when one man serves the whole team + lap dog a huge humble pie XD
