Wolff knows why Hamilton is the best-paid driver

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has indicated that there are two very distinct sides to his driver Lewis Hamilton - on one hand the international superstar with a glitzy lifestyle who captivates the media, and on the other a highly talented racer at the top of his game.

In an interviews with iNews, Wolff explained: "People dream if they think fashion shows are his main thing. He is not only the best racing driver at the moment but also that interesting personality. He gives the tabloids a lot of stories. He provides narrative. In order to be glorified you need to provide drama and he gives them all of that. He is a media phenomenon as well as a very skilled racing driver."

Wolff evidently puts aside Hamilton's celebrity life outside of F1 in favour of focusing on the outstanding talent that has earned his respect. "Seeing Lewis operate, and seeing him again this week (shakes head)," he continued, taken aback by the thought of Hamilton's ability. "What I saw in the long runs was just the best of the whole week of testing. Just unbelievable, whatever that skill set is.

"Lewis is an exceptional individual and edgy person that when he operates on a high is unbeatable. When Lewis has that 100 per cent thing going on he is your man. These are the days when you know why he is in that car, and why he is the best-paid driver."

  • Lol what load of crock, team principal says his driver is the best, shocka. This clown + entire Mclaren team couldn't put down one man: Alonso. Couldn't even dominate Button. Pathetic.

Some sports fans gotta always have someone to hate — especially when he always beats your team.
