Liberty has 'things to do' with F1 engines, DRS

Liberty Media boss Greg Maffei has hinted F1 needs to make changes to its current engine regulations. Last week, FIA president Jean Todt ruled out a return to screaming V8, V10 or V12 engines, declaring it would "not be accepted by global society".

But the volume of the current 'hybrid' power units remains highly controversial, and apparently has not escaped the notice of the sport's new owners. "Yes, there are some things to do around the engines, there are some things to do around the DRS system, there are a few things to do to try to balance the amount of money the teams get," Liberty chief executive Maffei is quoted by the Spanish sports newspaper AS.

He also revealed that moves are afoot to bring back some European circuits that have become lost to the F1 calendar. "There are always races that come and go," said Maffei, "but it's more negative when it's a traditional European race which is in the heart of the fans. We have already started a process to bring some of these circuits back."

And he said some race weekends must be made more exciting overall. "We will take as reference the best grands prix, such as Mexico, Singapore and Abu Dhabi, and bring what happens there to the traditional tracks," said Maffei. (GMM)

Very sad JT thanks - "V8, V10 or V12 not be accepted by global society". ............This is what F1 is about, we tried the tree huggers engines and nobody wants them except people who are not watching the sport or motor manufacturers who want to be seen to promote the environmental credentials over their technology!

JT has Formula E for the tree huggers, leave F1 as real Motorsport, this is exactly what F1 fans want.

And the motor manufacturer argument that, it will attract them is also bull, they'll come and go as ever and in fact better without them as they only drive an the arms race.... We need more teams like the original Virgin, Force India, Williams and Jordan type teams to bring energy and life.

  It's all about being hip with the PC culture, a bit like SJWs and Feminists. None of them have their own affairs sorted yet they want to make a lot of noise about matters they are not even party to.

  Agree'd!!! the only people that obide by the Hybrid engines are the mercedes fans, fans that only started supporting the team in 2014 may i add. There is a reason manufacturers are avoiding F1 and thats because of the cost that comes with this technology! Atleast take back the V8's!!!

give teams 10 kg more fuel and higher flow so they can rev engines at 14-15,000 RPM and it will all be like it was or closer

N/A V engines are a dead duck no matter how attached to them we have become. With today's electronics, turbocharging is not only feasible, it's desirable! Nothing whatever to do with PC, but efficient high performance engineering. The question mark has to be the hybrid part of the package. Perhaps they should dump that as I don't believe it brings much to the party that can be appreciated by the average fan. The one good thing to ĉome to light recently is it seems certain that diesel is dead as a popular fuel (or soon will be). I never could understand how Audi & Peugot had such a large fanbase with their almost silent 'whooshing' power delivery, or perhaps they (endurance fans) were simply more mature and were there for the racing and not the hearing damage?

  Have you ever watched those diesel cars go by in person? It is amazing. But those cars came about because of a loop hole, they would always become more and more regulated until they disappeared.
  
  Don't you enjoy the tyre squealing and other normally unheard sounds from the electric series racing? It too has an appeal to it.

I certainly dont mind having hybrid engines, I just wish my favourite supplier would do a better job. F1 is in part about development and new tech, thats what many of us find fascinating. I suppose that makes me weird.
