Niki Lauda has revealed that Mercedes backed Red Bull's motive to ban the shark fins from the 2017 cars. The design, which has sneaked its way into the regulations has been criticised by some.
The cars that have been introduced were designed to make them look more aggressive and faster, however not all agree with how teams have designed their cars for the purpose of looking fierce.
Red Bull team principal Christain Horner voiced hs strong opinion opposing the shark fins, and tried to ban them for the upcoming season. It has since been uncovered that teams said they would use them to feature sponsors on their cars.
"The fin was a huge discussion in the strategy group," Lauda revealed to the Austrian broadcaster ORF. "But the other teams said 'We can put sponsors on it', so that's why it was left."
