Fernando Alonso: "It was one of the best races I’ve ever done"

Fernando Alonso put in another stellar performance during Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix and quite clearly feels that he is in the form of his life. Following the race in Melbourne two weeks ago the Spaniard claimed his drive was one of his finest and his thoughts were along the same lines in regards to his performance in Shanghai.

In an interview with the BBC, Alonso referred to the first half of the race as some of the best laps of his distinguished F1 career.

"I don’t want to repeat myself after Australia but it was one of the best races I’ve ever done today, the first 30 laps."

After driving his car "like an animal" during qualifying, he started from thirteenth position and soon made progress in Sunday's opening laps.

“We were P6 after five laps and probably we will never repeat this race again."

As the track dried, the McLaren's performance plateaued and eventually Alonso was forced to retire with a pressure issue. He took another opportunity to have a slight dig at Honda, referring to the squad's terrible pre-season.

"I think we are paying a high price of the lack of testing. So the reliability is not in place. We didn’t have a normal winter in Barcelona. Hopefully we can improve our situation as soon as possible."

He doesn't give up does he? Ferdy once again in full self publicity mode. Definitely looking for another seat...?

  • He had an amazing race. A pity it had to end the way it did for both drivers. On a positive note, it really does look like McLaren did deliver on the chassis side this year. More so than I expected, considering the way they bragged about the 2016 chassis, only to have their bragging rights pulverized to fine dust in Suzuka. Less positive is that 2 months is still too far into the future, Honda, and I dont care if the upgrade is as big as your mum, 2 months is most likely too late.
