After Red Bull put on an impressive showing in the first practice session in Baku, they continued to show strong pace as Max Verstappen ended the second running of practice on top, setting a lap time of 1:43.362. His session ended in the barriers as he hit the wall at Turn 1 right at the death.
The ninety minutes of running was filled with drivers running up escape roads and bringing out yellow flags. Everybody appeared to be struggling for grip, which may cause Pirelli to drop the tyre pressures before free practice three tomorrow.
The Red Bull one-two didn't follow through in this session however, as Daniel Ricciardo could only manage the third fastest time, one-tenth of a second down on his Dutch teammate. In between the two energy drink-backed drivers was Valtteri Bottas.
The Ferrari's propped themselves into fourth and fifth, with Kimi Raikkonen leading Sebastian Vettel. Lance Stroll stuck in an impressive effort and ended his first day of lapping around Baku in sixth, seven and a half tenths of a second down on pace-setter Verstappen.
Sergio Perez was able to get out on track early after his crash at Turn 8 in FP1 earlier today. His best time was set on the soft tyre and put him into seventh place. He was ahead of teammate Esteban Ocon who was ninth.
Stuck in between the two the two pink Force India's was Daniil Kvyat who had a lucky escape after clipping the barriers at Turn 15. Closing out the top ten was the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton who will be expected to pull himself back into the running for tomorrow.
Despite showing some pace in P12, Fernando Alonso's day ended in familiar fashion, as the McLaren-Honda was forced to park up with an engine failure. There was a red flag during the session as under pressure Jolyon Palmer hit the barriers head on at Turn 8, ending his session.

Well done to Red Bull for their showing today, and to Stroll for 6th.
Looks like Hamilton is having a Monaco re-run, and Bottas is being Mr. Consistent.
And the less said about Honda the better.

hmm, has this query about burning oil had an effect? Does anyone know where to find the speed trap info?

Regarding the oil burning: regulation changes concerning that wont take effect until the next season.
