Brazilian Grand Prix promoter Tamas Rohonyi has revealed that Rio de Janeiro is interested in hosting the event in the future. The city is home to the track Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet, also known as Jacarepaguá. It has hosted 10 Formula 1 Grands Prix, in 1978, and from 1981 to 1989.
The current Brazilian Grand Prix is held at Interlagos and has done since 1990. The race has served up some memorable moments in its history and has become a fan favourite. The track, called, Autódromo José Carlos Pace is named after Brazillian racer Jose Pace, who won at the track in 1975.
"There is nothing (about the contract) that can be changed," Rohonyi said. "After 2020, if there is privatisation (of the circuit) then it depends on the new owner. But I think the mayor understands that losing this race track would be the end of motor sport in the country."
"The mayor of Rio, in fact all the mayors of Rio in the last 20 years, have asked us to go back there," said Rohonyi. "But with the contracts there was not even an opportunity to discuss it. If there is, then we will certainly talk."

Well done, especially for a City and Country which is bankrupt...they get big crowds so it should make a profit.
Rio de Janeiro is without a track currently. Autódromo Nelson Piquet (at Jacarepaguá neghborhood) was destroyed to build the Olympic Park, which makes me sad everytime I remember. The circuit does not exist anymore.
There was some talks about building a new one, but nothing concrete so far.
I went to the Autódromo de Jacarepaguá several times since 2005 with Stock Car, and I miss that. Historic circuit that deserved better luck.

Would be a shame to see Interlagos drop off the calendar
