Ex-Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger believes that Sebastian Vettel should face no further action following his incident with Lewis Hamilton at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. During the race, Vettel appeared to swipe into Hamilton under safety car conditions.

Vettel received a 10 second stop/go penalty, which accumulated to around 30 seconds after he travelled the length of the pit-lane. Today, the FIA are meeting in Paris to discuss if Vettel should face further punishment.

"I find the whole story good, because every fan has an opinion and that's what every sport needs," Berger said. "What we saw was two athletes with emotion, but no dangerous action. Both of them provoked, and both were punished -- Vettel by the FIA and Hamilton by the motorsport gods with his headrest. The topic should be over and we move on."

Dr Helmut Marko, who is the head of the Red Bull driver development programme, also believes that the sport should just move on from the incident.

"Sebastian is an emotional person, but I stick to what I said because with these Formula 1 cars, the electric motor is also like a brake if you are not on the power. I say Hamilton provoked him, and please -- this is not a girls' boarding school and the speed was not high," Marko told Kronen Zeitung newspaper.

  • I agree LH know knew if he slowed ever so slightly, in the right place, at the right time, SV would smash into him.

    • I think Lewis did not actually count on Seb hitting him. Lewis just likes to back everyone up so when the safety car is in, he can launch a little bit better than the guys behind. I don't think he would risk damage just to play mind games. Seb knows that Lewis plays this game, so he was supposed to pay attention what is going on in front
