Sergey Sirotkin was happy to have made a trouble-free outing for Renault in Austria, as the Russian took over the seat of Nico Hulkenberg in the first practice session. He set 27 laps in the session, the fastest of which was a 1:09.586.
Yesterday was the third time that Sirotkin officially participated in a Grand Prix weekend in 2017, as he also took the RS17 out on track in Russia and Spain. However, both runs were interrupted by car issues.
"It felt nice to have a clear session this morning and get some good laps in with the R.S.17," he said. "Having not driven the car in the last few weeks, I could feel the impact of the development as the car has definitely improved from before, so it is nice to see that the team is moving in the right direction. We worked through a decent programme and I can’t wait for my next FP1 opportunity."
Sirotkin, like many drivers, has been linked to a full-time seat with the team. With Jolyon Palmer struggling it appears there is every chance that Sirotkin could take place, but will have to beat of other hopefuls including Robert Kubica and Oliver Rowland.
