Wolff would love to see Kubica back on the grid

Toto Wolff has spoken of his desire to have old friend, Robert Kubica, back on the F1 grid as soon as possible.

The polish driver has been out of F1 since suffering an horrific Rallying accident in 2011, in which his arm was severely injured. It had been thought that the severity of the injury would mean he would never drive an F1 car again but has since taken part in some testing for the Renault team earlier in the year, and rumours of his return are constantly growing louder.

Kubica had been earmarked as a potential world champion of the future before his injury, with impressive performances at Renault and BMW sauber. Fernando Alonso is one of his keenest admirers, and calling him the best F1 driver that he had encountered.

Wolff is a longtime friend of Kubica and said he would more than welcome a return to the grid for him. He said: "I hear the tests are running very well, I think he found his way around coping with the hand that is not functioning so well. I would really enjoy seeing him back in Formula 1 he deserves that. He is one of the talents that wasn't able to show what he could can do. He had that one win, he was just coming up and then he had this freak accident in a rally."

Wolff then went on to comment on their relationship, saying: "I know Robert very well. I have known him since 2002, since Formula Renault. We speak Polish. I actually had a funny moment with him.I was doing the Mille Miglia with Aldo a few weeks ago. We were stopping in a village just before the Italian mountains and there were a lot of people asking for selfies. One guy was saying 'Please, a selfie!' I looked up and it was Robert! I asked 'What are you doing here?' Then we disappeared into a coffee shop. I was so happy to see him!"

As much as I like to see Kubica return, I'd rather see Alonso at Renault next season.

Wolf is full of sound bites isn't he? Ask him a question and he'll say something. No commitments or anything, just sound, much of it.. Give him a seat in one of your Mercs if you really believe he deserves a seat in F1!
