Formula 2 racer Luca Ghiotto will make his test debut next week with Williams, as the Italian will be bringing out the FW40 at the second in-season test in Hungary. Ghiotto will split duties with Felipe Massa, with both men driving a single day each.
In 2015, the 22-year-old finished runner-up in the GP3 series, losing out on the title to Force India's Esteban Ocon. Ghiotto currently sits fifth in the Formula 2 standings, competing in his second year of the feeder series. He thanked Williams for his opportunity and admitted he is looking forward to it.
"A big thanks to Williams for this opportunity," said Ghiotto. "I think the first F1 test for any driver is a special moment, and to do it with such a historic team is even better so I'm really excited. Of course, I also need to focus on the F2 weekend beforehand, but I'm really looking forward to the test and I really hope it goes well."
Deputy team principal Claire Williams added: "This will be Luca's first opportunity of a Formula 1 outing. Our team has a strong track record for developing young talent, and we always enjoy seeing young drivers getting opportunities to demonstrate their ability. I look forward to seeing how he performs in the car next month."
