Max Verstappen has apologised to Red Bull and Daniel Ricciardo after the Dutchman caused an accident on the opening lap of the race. As he and his teammate ran side-by-side down towards the second corner, Verstappen locked his front left tyre and hit into the side of Ricciardo who retired due to damage suffered from the incident.

Ricciardo was visibly and vocally upset after the race, branding Verstappen as an amateur. Verstappen was consequently handed a 10 second time penalty which took him out of the battle with Mercedes and Ferrari, shattering all chances of a podium finish

Speaking after the race, Verstappen said: "I apologise to Daniel and also to the team because we could have scored some good points. I'll speak to Daniel in private and we'll sort it out," he told Sky F1. "It's of course not what you want. Everything started in Turn 1. The start was actually quite good but then I got squeezed wide by [Valtteri] Bottas and lost quite a bit of speed and then we were both fighting for position in Turn 2.

"We braked quite deep into the corner but I had a car in front of me and locked the front. From there I was just a passenger. I was trying to avoid Daniel but it was not possible. It's never my intention to hit anyone but especially not my team-mate and especially with the relationship I have with Daniel which is very good."

well.. let me put it this way: Mr. Warwick is from which country? And Verstappen was in front of which driver at this point of the race?

Oops. But did he need a 10 second penalty? Bottas wiped out kimi before and didn't get anything. Guess mr warwick likes giving verstappen penalties.

This time it was his own team-mate and a misjudged situation by verstappen and his dirty tires and not a several time deliberate push off..

So all in all it was just meant to help Hamilton to pass Verstappen..

That's already more than Ricciardo publicly deserved after the way he dealt with it. Really low to go on radio the way he did followed by a middlefinger ( also not a first) and of course going to the press coming with the easy and stale qualifications like young, immature.

Also poorly managed by redbull. They should have kept Ricciardo away from press untill they had a chance to discuss it internally. The lack of determination and resolve in that team will eventually bring them in the vettel Webber position again.

Summed up, disappointing weekend for anything redbull

    • Good so you are salty that Ricciardo has spoken his mind without PR bulls*t. Maximum hype boy is just a moron on wheels, he has gotten away far too lightly many a times. It's time he got more penalties till he learns to be a good loser. He lost the battle pure and simple but couldn't handle it like a man. It's considerate that Ricciardo didn't punch the punk afterwards because most won't that level of patience for sh*theads doing that sort of thing on track.

Very very much doubt that this influenced Warwick's decision. Both Max & Horner held their hands up and there was only one that didn't, Marko, and that is to be expected as he adores Max who can do no wrong in his eyes.

Then please tell me why Bottas hadn´t been penalised for his several crashs with Raikkonen? Or why Ocon wasn´t penalised for the crash with Perez in Baku?
Etc and so on, it´s the first time a 10 second stop and go was given to a driver for such a "small" racing incident which obviously destroyed Ricciardo´s race but wasn´t a deliberate move like Vettel against Hamilton. It was just misjudged by Max.

I agree. There is more to this than meets the eye the penalties given to either ferrari or merc drivers are low to non existing. The steward should be someone who is independent the current people aren't. There is a bias towards favouring the first two teams. It's a joke. Somehow this will cause more issues. Also you feel that Haas feels the same about some drivers not getting penalties. The measuring against issues is not consistant. Same as last year.
