Jenson Button is preparing for his first Super GT race in the Suzuka 1000, in what will be his first race since stepping down as a race driver for McLaren at the end of last year. The 2009 World Champion has not formally retired from F1, with an option to return to McLaren in 2018, however it is understood it is highly unlikely he will ever return to F1.

Button has always had an affinity for the people and culture of Japan, having had a Japanese girlfriend for many years and has the Japanese character ichiban tattooed on his ankle and has featured on his helmet. He also claims that Suzuka is one of his favourite tracks, with his win their in 2011 ranking highly as one of his most emotional wins.

The Super GT championship is one of the most prestigious racing series in Japan and has featured some highly notable drivers such as Pedro De La Rosa, Ralf Schumacher and Andre Lotterer. However the team Button will be entering with aren't exactly the most successful team at the moment, having not won a race for two years, but Button will still be hoping to take them to victory.
