McLaren has signed a multi-year sponsorship deal with American cable, internet and satellite business news television channel CNBC. The company has ended its deal with Sauber, which lasted for three seasons.

McLaren, who will be hoping for a much more competitive 2018 season after three troublesome years, says the deal will allow it to reach a global business target audience.

"CNBC is a world-class, industry-leading brand and a superb fit for McLaren," said executive director Zak Brown. "This partnership will greatly enhance our ability to reach a global business target audience while enabling both CNBC and McLaren to highlight shared attributes and values.

"Formula 1 is a sport undergoing exciting change at multiple levels and bringing that story to a global business will help raise the profile not only of McLaren and CNBC but the sport of Formula 1 too."

KC Sullivan, president and managing director at CNBC International, added: "With a shared passion for sporting excellence, CNBC is looking forward to working with the McLaren family of brands to tell the story of cutting edge innovation."

  • Good. Now, I'm still waiting for the 'big' sponsor announcement, I hope this wasn't it.

      Maybe BP, or Petrobras.

    • I think Petrobras were going to sign with an F1 team, but dont remember which, could be McLaren. But BP seem more keen on Renault.

I was thinking that Petrobras would sponsor, I think there were some rumblings a few months ago about that. But if that deal failed, then maybe BP would sponsor both Renault and McLaren. CastrolEdge branding for Renault, and BP for McLaren.

I don’t think there are (m)any “big sponsors” left out there. Don’t forget, Bernie snaffled a lot of them for FOM trackside & F1 TV.

  • They won't even be getting cash from CNBC, they get airtime and then offer this to a cash paying sponsor, CNBC been on every car on the grid, great deal for CNBC they can't loose.
