Bernie Ecclestone: "Liberty doing everything wrong"

Former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has lashed out at the sport's new owners Liberty Media. The 87-year-old said last week that he strongly disagrees with Liberty's decision to ban grid girls.

But he has now told Sonntagsblick newspaper: "So far I have not seen a single thing that makes sense. They are doing almost everything wrong," Ecclestone charged.

One theory is that Liberty - whose F1 operations are being run by Chase Carey, Ross Brawn and Sean Bratches - is making a deliberate effort to erase the entire Ecclestone legacy. "That's the way it appears," Ecclestone agreed. (GMM)

I can only agree. Made a new Logo, got a boxing presenter, banned the grid girls can any tell me what they done beside try to fuckup everything.

Never thought I would agree with Bernie on anything, but I have to admit, he's dead right on this!
They are wobbling around with no clear strategy or even any apparent goals.
As a wise man once said " if you don't know where you are going, that's precisely where you will end up!"
Put simply they will get pulled this way and that and consequently will end up ruling a right old hodge-podge!

At least they haven't handed down some of the whooping errors that BE contrived in the recent past.

Im not going to say they have done EVERYTHING wrong. But some things they seem to be changing for changing sake. And trying to make it more Americanized is not a good way to go for a mostly European sport.

Not everything americanised is crap - some of it is very good. However, Im waiting for races to be split into four quarters, with big TV interludes in the breaks, loud music and who knows what else....... no more races in the US pls - the US doesn't even like F1 that much !!!! Also, can we bin any GP venue where attendances are, say less than 50k people, replace with venues that are historic, where you can actually overtake in more places than the pitlane - if we keep these mickey mouse tracks, then they should compulsorily be made to double the width of the track. Also, I want to see the grid expanded to 26 cars - Mansell said it last week and he's spot on - too few cars making for a procession. Got to get back to affordable (relative concept I know) racing, but not generic engines and chassis, the finances for the teams to be open-book clearly showing expenditure and avoiding OEM's hiding development costs within the larger organisation (Daimler, Ferrari, Renault...). I would like to see a system, like here racing, where handicap's come into play - if Williams win a race, and they only have 50% the budget of the bigger team, they should score a percentage more points - this would allow the sort of incentive for smaller marques to go racing, knowing they might not be able to complete on budget alone, but on these few days a year where they pull out the stops and get a great result, they can earn more points and so maybe have a few more quid to spend on development for next season - what do you think?

  • I had some doubts. But to hear Bernie saying this confirms Liberty is going in the right direction

    • I havent really made up my mind about Liberty, but they've made enough good moves for me to be optimistic, and as you say, I'll take Äckelstone's (äckel is Swedish for a groce person) disapproval as a positive thing.

Turning it into a cross between NFL and NASCAR will bring an end to F1.
