Ferrari have launched its challenger for the 2018 season, the SF71-H at its base in Maranello. This season's car will look to build on last years somewhat successful year, with its car being a genuine championship contender for the majority of the season for the first time in the turbo era, claiming five victories and propelling Sebastian Vettel to second place in the drivers championship.

However This season they will be looking to go one step further with this years car, and prevent going a tenth season in a row without a championship. The car will be equipped with the controversial Halo device and will be piloted by Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel.

The ceremony was attended by members of the tifosi from around the globe, with various videos from fans sending messages of support for the coming season. The new car, decked out in traditional Ferrari red was presented by team boss Maurizio Arrivabene and drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen.

It kinda looks as if there was something missing. Like there was too much red... On a Ferrari :D

  • I was looking forward to a different kind of red. Maybe the picture is over saturated, but the livery looks nearly the same.

    • No, your eyes do not fool you, it is the same red colour that they've used before. Not necessarily last year, but its been used at least once during the 2000s. A bit disappointing, I'll admit. a somewhat darker, more morello colour would be neat.

  • They all have that halo, but even that is integrated well into the design. Best looking car if you ask me.

    • Its up there, but the Mercedes is pretty neat aswell. I love the Toro Rosso livery, but need more pics on it to confirm.

Ferrari noticed that Halo is very good marketing platform and put their logo there :) I guess the logo in Halo is easily worth millions in media advertisement budget that Ferrari replaces with F1 :)

  • The car looks very similar to what they had last year. Biggest changes seem to be the removal of the sharkfin, the addition of the halo and far less white.

First thing I noticed was actually how narrow it was, like Sauber the Ferrari has alot narrower sidepods this year, I guess the layout of the cooling is different from other teams. Didn't really see that on the Haas.

    • Wasnt the Haas just a render though? Its so much harder to see such details on a render, methinks. But yeah, it looks slimmer on the side pods. But that seems to be a running theme.

Sidepods look like having some innovation and they already show a aero device on halo that some others teams were hiding or missing. I start to be really eager for the Monday to get some hints how well teams have good cars teams have.

    • Of course, they pretty much launch the entire team. And it could be that they want to hide certain aero bits from greedy rivals.
