Jolyon Palmer will be joining BBC's radio coverage of F1 in 2018. The former Renault driver, who lost his seat at the French squad towards the end of 2017, will team up with Jack Nicholls and Jennie Gow to provide commentary on the 2018 season.

The Briton will also provide features for the BBC Sport website. Palmer has previous experience commentating, having sat behind the mic in 2015 for the GP2 series, one year after he claimed the championship. Palmer admits he is looking forward to his new role.

"I've worked with Jennie and Jack a lot but am more used to being grilled by them," he said. "It's going to be great joining them in the commentary team and to get to ask the questions myself. I'm fascinated to see how the inter-team rivalry plays out and hope I'll be able to bring my own knowledge of the personalities involved to shed further light on the relationships."

The 27-year-old contested 35 Grands Prix across the 2016 and 2017 seasons. However, following the Japanese Grand Prix last year, he confirmed that he would be leaving Renault, with Carlos Sainz coming in to replace him.

I think he will make it there, one way or another.

Dude... I thought Renault were gonna find him a race seat somewhere. And Radio? C'mon, he's a handsome young man, he doesn't have a face for radio.

  • I wish him the best. It's a but sad but he was simply not fast enough for Formula 1. I'm surprise though, that he didn't get a chance in lower categories. I mean, seems like anyone makes it to FE and GT

He was too ‘nice’ for F1 that’s for sure, a nice bloke, but they always finish last.
