Lewis Hamilton: "Grid girl comeback comment a joke"

Lewis Hamilton has backtracked after enthusiastically hailing the return of F1 'grid girls'. Despite new F1 owner Liberty Media having banned 'grid girls' for 2018, organisers of the grands prix in Monaco and Russia indicated they would bring beautiful women back to the sport this year.

Hamilton responded by adding the caption 'Thank you Jesus' to an Instagram post about the news. But the post stirred up a controversy and the Mercedes driver deleted it.

And according to AFP news agency, he said in Bahrain: "It was just a joke. I saw this publication about beautiful girls coming back and said 'Thank you Jesus'. But honestly it doesn't interest me," Hamilton added. (GMM)

Sad he has to delete everything that's true for fear of offending, nobody in his position can say what they really think and he agrees it's a silly idea to ban them.

  • Isnt that adorable? Hammy doing the standard "just a prank" evasion maneuver?

Exactly. I can appreciate when people make controversial statements, even if I don't agree with them, if they stand behind them. However, this whole "it was just a joke" or "my twitter was hacked" is just beyond pathetic.

    • Yeah, dunno what could go wrong. Stuff like that is real foolproof, and doesnt generally at all backfire.

    • Also, I love how he contradicted himself in that statement he published.

Frustrating he chose to back track, he's a single bloke - why not join some of the other drivers & admit it was nice having a few hotties around when he's heading to the podium?
