Charlie Whiting says the FIA will not intervene over the issue of Ferrari's smoking engines. While arguably now with the most powerful engine in F1, Ferrari's 2018 power unit smokes excessively when it is fired up.
"We suffocate in our garage every time they start it," Mercedes' team chairman Niki Lauda told Auto Motor und Sport. "The FIA should look into it."
However, F1 race director Whiting said that despite the smoking, checks have shown that Ferrari's engine is not consuming more oil than it is permitted to. As for the smoking, he added: "I'm sure they'll sort that out." (GMM)
Maybe thats their plan? Gassing the opposition so that nobody can outrun them? Or maybe use it as a smoke screen while on track like an octopus uses ink? Vettel shoulda named it smokie.
I hope they keep it, it looks cool. And as an added bonus it annoys Mercedes, what's not to like!?
They are going to put it on nicotine patches in order for it to stop smoking ;)
You would think with all the money they spend it would have come out in green, white and red stripes! Maybe they’re a bit late with that update.
All the teams could have a go at that, except perhaps Haas - might have trouble to make the white stars! Sorry AJP couldn’t resist it.
Quite frankly if it pisses Merc off then let it stay.
