Bratches: "F1 eyes new races in Vietnam, China"

Vietnam is still on track to join the F1 calendar in the future. That is the claim of Sean Bratches, F1 owner Liberty Media's commercial boss. "This is a street race where we can go downtown, where we can activate a large fan base," he told the Associated Press.

Bratches also said F1 could add a second grand prix in China, with a precise location to be "left to local Chinese partners". But he said the first priority is to get the calendar properly structured regionally, which will eventually clear the path for "24 or 25" races per year.

"We've acquired an undermanaged asset that's 67 years old, but effectively a startup," said Bratches. "With the right economics, with the right structure and cadence of events across territories, 24 or 25 is probably where we'd like to be from a longer term standpoint." (GMM)

25 races???? You know, a lot of people in the business got families! I love F1 and I wish it was on every weekend but you have to be realistic. This is a human sport and there is a limit to how much people can take, even the best.

  • The current amount is fine. 25 is the abdolute maximum, and no more should be included after that point.

  • There should be more week by week races to achieve 25 races. But how they want to do 25 races with the budget cap 150 MUSD per season?

    • Yeah, I wonder about that aswell. But maybe transport fees and such isnt included in that budget?

    • Change it to "no more street races" and I'll agree. I think we are fine on that front.

Maybe pretty soon it’ll become the Americo - Asia F1 series. @ TIMBERVD, so much for a budget cap when teams have to set duplicate crews to cope with the travel and broken families. Too many races = viewer overkill as the sense of anticipation is lost. “Good race, see you in 5 days”.
