Kubica: I can make a comeback now

Robert Kubica believes that he can make a full comeback to Formula 1 after completing a practice session with Williams. The Pole took part in his first F1 weekend session since 2010 on Friday, driving the FW41 during the opening practice session.

The 2008 Canadian Grand Prix winner wasn't happy following the outing, saying that he was embarrassed driving a car that was so unbalanced. When asked in the paddock, he told BBC Sport BBC Sport the he "could make a comeback now", but it was not his decision.

Kubica ended the session in P19, ahead of Lance Stroll in the second Williams. The 33-year-old is set to drive in two other free practice sessions later this year, as well as take part in the in-season test following the Spanish GP.

When asked if the lap times during practice meant anything to him, he said:  "No. Because I know my value so I don't have to look lap times. Very simple. Although it sounds strange, often people forget motorsport is sport and all sportsman are practising training as often as possible.

"I am not driving often but it is already the sixth, seventh, eighth time and it is becoming more natural, which is good. All sportsmen, whatever sport you do, you look for what you are doing to become natural because this gives you better comfort, better way of doing things. It is more than two months since I drove here, it is not easy, things are changing, conditions are different but I managed pretty well and I am happy."

Williams should really consider swapping out one of their pay drivers for him. At this rate they have nothing to lose.

He was faster than Stroll, who in turn was faster than Sirotkin.... So yeah, they really should. However, I'd put DiResta in there. I am convinced that he was the fastest out of himself, Kubica and Sirotkin, but he had zero cash to offer.

Robert has the most to prove, and would drive his heart out if given the chance ;p

The other 2 pay drivers have a nice life, and so no motivation to do stuff all.

    • That doesnt have to be the case. Most of the drivers have a nice life, yet you dont see Alonso sitting back, chilling with some gin and juice. I just think its a matter of level, and looking at some of the recent additions to the grid, the step up to F1 is higher than ever.
