Hamilton: Great to see "true force" in the team

Lewis Hamilton says that Mercedes showed its true force in Barcelona, as he dominated to take victory in Spain. The Briton finished over 20 seconds ahead of teammate Valtteri Bottas, who came home to complete a Mercedes 1-2.

Hamilton took his second consecutive victory in good style, controlling the race from the start to the end. The four-time world champion extends his lead in the championship to 17 points over Sebastian Vettel, stating he felt "that synergy" between him and the car.

"Today the car and myself, I felt that synergy today, which I hadn’t been feeling for the whole year. It’s a good feeling," Hamilton said. "I couldn’t have done it without this incredible team. These guys have done an amazing job. I’m just really proud of everyone.

Mercedes now take over the lead of the constructor's championship, heading their Italian rivals by 27 points. Hamilton is hoping that the Silver Arrows will keep up its Barcelona form and continue to apply pressure.

"This is when we’re going to start trying to continue to apply the pressure. A one-two for the team, we’ve got our Mercedes board with us who have been supporting us from day one, so it’s great to have them here and just see that true force within the team. Strength in depth. I hope it can continue."

You know, I do have some tinfoil hats left, if you care for one.

  • The Mercedes is no doubt still the car to beat. This became very obvious today. The only thing I see the others mounting a legit challenge on them is that they prevent Merc' from getting more 1-2 starts.

    • Other than Melbourne, there was every indication that Ferrari was the car to beat. Sebastián could have won the last two races without his mistakes and bad luck with one safety car. No doubt Mercedes is up there, but Ferrari has been the car to beat until today. It's odd because Ferrari's customary dip in performance usually comes later in the year

    • Im not as sure, looking at Kimi. I always place the car between the two drivers, and Kimi, while looking strong, was never flying in comparison to the Merc'. What I find surprising is that Ferrari got so outpaced on this track, I expected that to happen on a more straightline speed focused track.

  • Yet again when Mercedes stuggle, their buddies Pirelli come to the rescue.

Yep, you have to ask the question, why have Pirelli mucked about with the tyres at this stage of the season? Any one any info?

It was a peerless drive from Lewis and I felt Set was not himself today, I don't but the tyre thing too much, rather this was a Mercedes track for sure and once again a strategy call led to Seb losing a few points. Bottas was really good too. Again, and I am getting really suspicious about this now - Kimi has rotten luck - reliability issues hardly ever impact on Seb - wtf is going on??
