Vijay Mallya has stepped down as a director of his own formula one team.

A filing at the UK's Companies House shows that the Indian's directorship of his team Force India was terminated last Thursday.

"According to the British press, Mallya leaves the board of directors due to the need to focus on his legal problems," a report at Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport said.

Mallya remains a major shareholder and team boss, and the report said Bob Fernley and Otmar Szafnauer are also staying in their prominent roles.

The news comes amid rumours Silverstone based Force India is close to being sold to British energy drink Rich Energy.

  • Good riddance. One creep less to worry about. One less muppet to creep and crawl in F1, tainting a team that I've otherwise grown very fond of. Force India is where the true customer team lives on. Even if I was disappointed by them letting Wolff do what he DID last race!

Don't get too excited about this, he still owns the Co as majority shareholder, so he's still the boss. It just means that he now has no legal accountability for what the Co does and the Co is not affected by anything done to him!

    • Yeah, this isnt necessarily a complete win, but I'll still take it and run with it as far as my skinny legs can carry me. :)

They should include the other part of the story as well, his son Siddarth has replaced him on the board of directors
