Fernando Alonso announced on Tuesday that he would be leaving the sport at the end of the 2018 Formula 1 season. The veteran made his race debut back in 2001, before going on to spend 15 consecutive years in the sport.
Despite leaving F1 at the end of the year, it is not officially a retirement, as he is open to returning if McLaren becomes competitive once again. However after his announcement, plenty of figures in the motorsport world offered him their best.

I honestly suspected that this would be Alonso's final season in F1, but I didn't expect the official announcement to be such a blow to the stomach. End of an era. #F1

We’ll miss you @alo_oficial - the first driver I met when I started working in F1 at Ferrari’s pre-season media event in 2012. Always good to interview, it’s been a pleasure. Go well and go fast at whatever is next! #fernando #nando #alonso #skyf1 #f1 pic.twitter.com/HTXSb01nXy
